What to Send a Packaging Factory for an Accurate Custom Box Quote

A custom packaging quote is only as accurate as the brief behind it. If Jiayi Packaging has to guess the product, the opening style or the quantity band, the first number is a placeholder, not a specification you can compare with another factory.

This guide lists custom packaging quote requirements from a Shenzhen paper-packaging factory. Use it before you open Contact. For the path from brief to sample, see How We Develop Custom Packaging. Current box types are on Products.

What belongs in a custom packaging quote brief

Custom packaging boxes used when briefing a factory quote

Start with the item that will sit in the pack, not with a box name. Send length, width, height and weight, and say whether the product is a bottle, a set, a folded garment or a loose accessory. A photo or a simple outline is enough at inquiry. If several SKUs share one program, say which sizes must share one structure and which need their own cavity.

If you already know the format — gift box, mailer, paper tube or bag — name it. If you do not, describe the unboxing moment and the shipping route instead of forcing a catalog name. Factories quote structures. Marketing names do not travel well across suppliers.

Structure and how the box should open

Note lid-and-base, folding carton, magnetic closure, mailer, paper tube or bag if you have a preference. If you only know the feel — a rigid gift moment versus a shipper that folds from a blank — write that sentence. Inserts, windows and handles should be mentioned when they are required, not added after the first sample is already cut.

A brief that says “luxury box” produces three different quotes. A brief that says “rigid lid-and-base, no window, pulp insert, foil logo only” produces one conversation.

Quantity, print and packing use

Give a quantity range even if the first order is a trial. Artwork can be a PDF, AI file or a brand reference. Say whether you need CMYK, Pantone, or a foil or emboss area. State where the pack will be used: retail shelf, gift set, or fulfillment carton. Those three facts change board, print method and how the empty pack ships.

Destination market matters for certificates and for how the master carton is packed. You do not need a full logistics plan in the first email. You do need to say whether the box is filled in China or shipped empty to a warehouse.

What a factory confirms on quote, not on a blog page

Board caliper, exact MOQ, unit price and production lead time depend on the structure and finishing you choose. Jiayi Packaging confirms those on the quote. This page does not publish a site-wide price list. Certificate copies — including ISO 9001, ISO 14001, FSC, SGS, Sedex SMETA, REACH and the SC food-contact production license listed on the Factory page — can be requested with the same inquiry when a vendor file needs them.

A factory RFQ checklist

Send this set in one email:

  • Product size, weight and a photo
  • Preferred opening, or a description of the unboxing
  • Quantity range and destination market
  • Artwork or brand references
  • Whether an insert, window or bag is part of the same program
  • Whether the box ships filled or empty

Missing one of these usually adds a second quote round. That is slower than writing a longer first email.

Common quote mistakes that widen the price

Brands often send a render without a physical size. They ask for “the same as last year” without attaching the last dieline. They add a second foil color after the white sample is approved. Each of those changes the number. If the product is still in design, say so and ask for a structure recommendation instead of a locked unit price.

Another mistake is mixing two jobs in one line: a rigid gift box and the mailer that ships it. Those are two specifications. They can share artwork. They should not share one vague “packaging” quantity.

How Jiayi Packaging reads an inquiry

Jiayi Packaging factory floor in Shenzhen used for sampling and production

The plant is in Jishengchang Industrial Park, Buji Street, Longgang District, Shenzhen, Guangdong, China. Sampling and mass production sit in the same operation. That is why a complete brief can move to a white sample without a trading desk rewriting the size. Research, production and sales have sat together since packaging work dating back to 2007.

If the brief is incomplete, the reply will be questions, not a fake-precise price. That is the useful outcome. A precise price on a vague brief is the one that breaks in mass production.

Why Choose Jiayi Packaging

For quote work, the useful factory is the one that can turn a product photo into a structure question list, then sample that structure. Jiayi Packaging runs paper gift boxes, magnetic boxes, paper tubes, mailers and paper bags from the Shenzhen plant described on Factory. Buyers can request the certificate copies that already appear on that page rather than a slogan.

The first reply is meant to lock fit and opening, not to decorate a mood board. Send the checklist above and the missing items will be named before board and print are locked.

FAQ: custom packaging quote requirements

Do I need a dieline before I request a quote?

No. A product photo and size are enough to start. A dieline helps if you already have one. If you do not, the factory can propose a structure after the fit is clear.

Can I get a price with only a quantity and a box name?

You can get a range. You cannot get a number that survives sampling. Add size, opening and print method if you want a quote you can compare.

Should I include the mailer and the gift box in one brief?

Yes, as two lines. Say which is the presentation pack and which is the shipper. Do not merge them into one “box” quantity.

A practical next step

Write the checklist once. Send it through Get a Quote. Jiayi Packaging will come back with structure options and the questions still missing from the brief.
