Jewelry packaging fails when the cavity is a generic gift-box well. A ring, a chain and a pair of earrings need different depths and hold points. The lid should close without rubbing stones or plating.
Most jewelry programs use a small rigid or magnetic box. Paper boxes can be considered for lighter fashion jewelry. Inserts are not optional on pieces that will be shown in the box.

Materials
Greyboard and art paper are the usual jewelry combination. Paper inserts or flocked-look card can be used for the nest. Molded pulp is appropriate when the outline is simple enough to form. Thin corrugated is for the outer shipper, not the jewelry face.
Printing & Finishing
Foil on a small lid logo is common. Soft matte lamination keeps fingerprints down. Heavy spot UV on a tiny lid is easy to scuff; it is used only when the panel can take it.
Custom Inserts for Product Fit
Jewelry inserts are shallow and precise. The hold point should be the band or card, not the stone. Send the piece size or a sample so the cavity can be cut or formed to it.
