Skincare packaging

Custom Skincare Packaging

Custom boxes for serums, creams and skincare sets, specified around bottle height, pump or dropper clearance, insert layout and how the pack will be shown or shipped.

Packaging Challenges We Solve

Skincare packaging needs to be developed around the product, not just the outer box. Serum bottles, cream jars, tubes and airless pumps are taller and narrower than most color-cosmetic packs. Inner height is taken to the top of the pump, dropper or cap — not only the bottle shoulder.

  • Bottle, jar and tube dimensions
Height, diameter and footprint decide the well. A cavity drawn for a short cream jar will not hold a tall serum bottle. Measure the largest outline, including any collar or overcap.
  • Pump, cap and dropper clearance
Actuators and droppers add height above the bottle body. The lid should close without pressing the pump. Insert thickness and box height are set together so the closure does not contact the lid panel.
  • Skincare sets vs single products
A two- or three-step routine needs separate nests so glass or plastic pieces do not knock. A single retail bottle can sit in a folding carton when height and print are the main needs.
  • Presentation vs support
Gift and counter packs need a clean lid face and a stable layout. Retail cartons are often lighter. Support is specified from product weight and how the pack is handled — this page does not claim drop-proof or damage-free performance.

Skincare Packaging Structures

A single retail bottle, a gift set and a shipped kit often need different constructions. The matches below are starting points — product height, opening and how the pack ships decide the structure.

Magnetic Rigid Boxes

Typical use: two- or three-piece routines and gift presentation that need a controlled open.

Main advantage: the lid opens cleanly and the lid face stays usable for a logo, while the wall stays square around taller bottles.

When it may be suitable: when pump height can be designed so the lid does not press the actuator. See magnetic boxes. Not every magnetic box is fold-flat; a collapsible construction can be reviewed when empty boxes must ship flatter. A published skincare example is the Collapsible Magnetic Box for Skincare.

Rigid Gift Boxes

Typical use: seasonal kits, multi-step routines and lid-and-base presentation.

Main advantage: greyboard gives a stable well for an insert and a flat panel for print or foil.

When it may be suitable: when the set is shown or gifted and the wall should not flex when the lid lifts. See gift boxes.

Paper / Folding Cartons

Typical use: a single retail bottle or a light tube when shelf presentation and print area matter more than a rigid wall.

Main advantage: a lighter construction that still follows bottle height and print layout.

When it may be suitable: for individual skincare products sold on a shelf. See paper boxes.

Paper Tubes

Typical use: a cylindrical bottle or a small travel set.

Main advantage: a round outer that follows the bottle rather than a rectangular well.

When it may be suitable: when the product is round and the brand wants the pack to be the tube. See paper tubes. A published example is on the Custom Paper Tube for Skincare project page.

Custom Boxes with Inserts

Typical use: bottles, jars or sets that must stay upright and apart.

Main advantage: each cavity is drawn from diameter, height and pump or dropper clearance.

When it may be suitable: whenever more than one piece shares a box, or a single tall pump needs a nest so it cannot lean. See packaging inserts.

Recommended Packaging Formats

These formats are already on the site. Use them from how the product is sold: an individual bottle or jar, a product plus accessory, a two- or three-piece routine, gift presentation, or a lighter retail carton. A mailer can sit outside the presentation pack when the order ships.

Custom Inserts for Skincare Products

Insert dimensions should be developed around the actual bottles, jars or tubes. Send diameter, body height and the full pump, cap or dropper height before the cavity is locked.

The nest should support the bottle shoulder or jar base so the piece stays upright. Cavity width follows the largest diameter. Insert thickness and lid clearance are set together so the actuator or dropper does not contact the lid. Leave space between wells on a set so neighboring pieces do not mark each other.

If several SKUs share one outer, the insert is usually what changes. A tray drawn for two short jars will not hold a tall serum and a cream. Say the set plan before sampling.

Paperboard, EVA and molded pulp hold differently. Paperboard is easier to print. EVA can sit tighter on a bottle. Molded pulp can be considered for two- or three-bottle layouts when the outline is simple enough to form. The material is chosen from the product, not assumed for every skincare brief.

How to take product size is covered in how to measure a product for a custom box. Broader insert options are on how to choose packaging inserts.

Materials, Printing & Finishing

Greyboard sets how rigid a kit box feels. Art paper is the usual wrap on a rigid or magnetic pack. Folding carton board is used for single-bottle retail cartons. Interior print can be added when the open lid or well is part of the brand face; exterior print carries color and logo on the closed pack.

CMYK is the usual print route. Foil, embossing or debossing are placed after the lid or panel size is locked. Matte or soft-touch lamination changes how a dark wrap is handled. These choices affect appearance, tactile feel and board stiffness. They are confirmed on sample. Thin corrugated is for an outer shipper when the presentation pack also travels as a parcel.

How We Develop Custom Skincare Packaging

01

Product & Requirement Review

We review bottle, jar or tube sizes — including pump, dropper or cap height — set contents, and whether the pack is for shelf, gift or shipping.

02

Structure & Dimensions

Box style, inner height and opening are drawn from the tallest closure and the footprint of the set.

03

Insert / Cavity Development

Wells are cut or formed around each product so bottles stay upright and apart.

04

Prototype / Sample

A sample is used to check cavity fit, pump or dropper clearance and lid close on the actual products.

05

Production & Quality Control

Boxes and inserts follow the approved nest. Height, fit and print register are checked against the sample.

Representative Packaging Project

This representative project illustrates a typical skincare packaging development approach and is not presented as a specific customer case.

The example below is a rigid magnetic box with a custom insert for a small skincare set. A published paper-tube example is on the Custom Paper Tube for Skincare project page.

Magnetic Skincare Gift Box with Custom Insert

Packaging Type Rigid magnetic box for a skincare set
Structure Greyboard construction with magnetic closure
Application Two- or three-piece skincare set (bottles, jars or tubes)
Insert Custom-fitted insert developed around each product’s diameter and height
Material Greyboard wrapped with printed art paper
Finish Matte / soft-touch / foil options, confirmed on the sample

The Brief

A skincare brand needs a presentation box for more than one product, with each piece held in a fixed position when the lid opens.

The Packaging Challenge

The pieces have different heights and closures. A shared well lets bottles tilt. Pump or dropper height has to be included in the inner size so the lid does not press the closure.

Our Solution

The box structure and insert are developed around the actual product dimensions. Product positioning, cavity dimensions and lid clearance are reviewed during sampling.

Why This Structure

A rigid magnetic box can be suitable for a skincare gift set because the lid opens in a controlled way and the wall stays square around taller bottles. The structure is confirmed against pump height and set layout — it is not assumed for every skincare program. A single retail bottle may still be better in a folding carton or a paper tube.

How to Choose the Right Skincare Box

Use the table as a starting point. The final structure depends on whether you have one product or a set, bottle or jar size, pump or dropper height, and whether the pack is for retail or gift presentation.

Structure Suitable For Main Advantage
Folding carton / paper box Individual retail bottles or tubes Lighter construction and printed shelf face
Rigid magnetic box Skincare gift sets and kit presentation Controlled opening and a square well for inserts
Lid-and-base gift box Simple kits or seasonal presentation Classic two-piece structure
Paper tube Cylindrical bottles or small travel packs Round outer that follows the product
Box with custom insert Sets or tall pumps that must stay positioned Cavity and clearance drawn from each piece

What We Need From You

You do not need every packaging detail finalized before contacting Jiayi. If the structure is still open, we can first discuss product fit, box style and insert requirements.

Useful information to include:

  • Product dimensions
Bottle, jar or tube size, including pump, dropper or cap height.
  • Product photos
If a drawing is not ready, a photo of each piece helps the cavity plan.
  • Number of products per box
One piece, or a two- / three-piece set.
  • Preferred structure
If you already know carton, magnetic, gift box or tube. If not, it can be proposed from the products.
  • Insert requirements
Whether pieces must sit upright, in a row, or in a specific order.
  • Artwork / design PDF
If available. Artwork can wait until the panel size is locked.
  • Quantity
Needed for sampling and production discussion.
  • Destination
If a shipping or empty-box freight discussion is needed.

FAQ

How do you pack skincare bottles with pumps?

Measure to the top of the actuator and build lid clearance into the dieline. An insert should hold the bottle so the pump cannot lean into the lid.

What box works for a two- or three-piece skincare set?

A rigid or magnetic box with a fitted insert is often suitable. A folding carton can be used if the bottles are light and the insert still separates them.

Can skincare packaging use a paper tube?

A paper tube can be considered for a single cylindrical bottle or a small travel set, depending on how the product should be displayed.

Do skincare gift sets need a different structure from retail cartons?

Often yes. Gift sets usually need a thicker wall and a lid that opens cleanly. Retail singles can stay on a folding carton.

What materials are typical for skincare boxes?

Art paper and greyboard for kits; folding board for singles; molded pulp for multi-bottle trays. Confirm the board with the bottle weight.

How do I request a skincare packaging quote?

Send bottle height including pump, set layout, quantity and artwork. Structure is proposed from those measurements.
