Custom Cosmetic Packaging
Custom cosmetic packaging developed around your bottles, jars, tubes and product sets — from box structure and inserts to materials, sampling and production.
Packaging Challenges We Solve
Cosmetic packaging needs to be developed around the product, not just the outer box. Bottle height, jar diameter, tube length and pump clearance decide the inner size. Jiayi develops the structure and insert from those dimensions so the set stays organized during handling, presentation and packing.
- Different product shapes and heights
Bottles, jars, tubes and pumps do not share one outline. Height, diameter and center of gravity change how the piece sits. A cavity drawn for a short jar will not hold a tall pump bottle. - Pump and cap clearance
Pumps, spray collars and tall caps need extra inner height. The lid should close without pressing the closure. Insert thickness and box height are set together so the cap does not contact the lid panel. - Multi-product gift sets
Two or more pieces need separate wells so they do not knock or tilt. The layout should keep the set visually balanced and still leave enough wall between cavities for the insert to stay rigid. - Presentation vs. protection
The lid face carries the brand, while the insert has to support glass, plastic or compact pieces during packing and shipping. Presentation and support are specified together — this page does not claim drop-proof or damage-free performance.
Cosmetic Packaging Structures
Rigid and magnetic boxes are often considered for gift and counter presentation. Folding paper boxes and paper tubes can be suitable for lighter retail packs. The matches below are starting points — product weight, opening and how the pack ships decide the structure.
Rigid Cosmetic Gift Boxes
Typical use: kits, gift sets and products that need a firm wall and a clean lid or front panel.
Main advantage: greyboard keeps a square face for print and foil, and gives a stable well for an insert.
When it may be suitable: when the set is shown or gifted and the wall should not flex when the lid lifts. See gift boxes for rigid presentation formats.
Magnetic Cosmetic Boxes
Typical use: premium cosmetic or skincare gift sets that need a controlled open.
Main advantage: the lid opens and closes cleanly, and the lid face stays usable for branding.
When it may be suitable: when opening experience matters and pump height can be designed so the lid does not press the cap. See magnetic boxes. Not every magnetic box is fold-flat.
Lid-and-Base Boxes
Typical use: a single bottle, jar or compact, or a simple two-piece gift.
Main advantage: a classic two-piece structure that is flexible on lid and base sizing.
When it may be suitable: when you want a straightforward presentation box without a magnetic catch.
Drawer Boxes
Typical use: gift sets where a sliding open is part of the presentation.
Main advantage: a distinctive opening sequence; the tray can hold one or more cavities.
When it may be suitable: when the brief wants a drawer-style open. Drawer constructions are developed during sampling when the product requires them — there is no separate drawer-box category page.
Custom Cosmetic Boxes with Inserts
Typical use: bottles, jars, tubes or sets that must stay in a fixed position.
Main advantage: each cavity is cut or formed from the product dimensions, including pump and cap height.
When it may be suitable: for any set that is shown in the box, packed as a gift, or shares one outer with more than one SKU. See packaging inserts.
Recommended Packaging Formats
These formats are already on the site. Choose them from how the product is sold — a single bottle, a product plus accessory, a two-piece set, a skincare or cosmetic gift set, retail shelf presentation, or a gift / promotional pack. Folding paper boxes and paper tubes remain options when a lighter retail construction is enough.
Magnetic BoxesA structured closure for beauty sets that need a controlled open and a clean lid face.
Gift BoxesRigid gift boxes for kits and products that need a thicker wall and a presentation lid.
Paper BoxesFolding paper boxes for lighter retail cosmetic packs.
Packaging InsertsCavities for bottles, jars and compact sets, cut or formed from the product size.
Paper TubesRound packs that can be considered for tubes, small bottles or cylindrical sets.Custom Inserts for Cosmetic Products
Insert dimensions should be developed around the actual product. Send bottle, jar and tube sizes before the cavity is locked — including product height, diameter or width, and the full pump or cap height.
Cavity length, width and depth follow the largest points of each piece. Insert thickness and lid clearance are set together so the closure does not contact the lid. A few millimetres of extra well width is enough for a bottle to tilt and mark a neighboring piece or the wrap.
Multi-product layouts need a well for each item, with enough board or foam between cavities. If several SKUs share one outer box, the insert is usually what changes. Say the SKU plan before sampling so the cavity plan is not rebuilt later.
EVA, paperboard, flocked paperboard and molded pulp hold differently. Paperboard is easier to print. EVA can give a tighter sit on a bottle or compact. Molded pulp can be considered when the outline is simple enough to form. The material is chosen from the product, not assumed for every cosmetic brief.
Broader insert options are on how to choose packaging inserts.
Materials, Printing & Finishing
Greyboard thickness sets how rigid a small or medium cosmetic box feels in the hand. Art paper is the usual print wrap. Interior print can be added when the open lid or well is part of the brand face; exterior print carries the logo and color on the closed pack.
CMYK is the usual print route; foil stamping and embossing or debossing are placed after the lid size is locked so the mark sits on a flat panel. Matte or soft-touch lamination changes how the box is handled and can reduce fingerprints on a dark wrap. These choices affect appearance, brand presentation, tactile feel and structural stiffness — they are confirmed on sample, not assumed from a finish list. Thin corrugated is for an outer shipper when the gift pack also travels as a parcel.
How We Develop Custom Cosmetic Packaging
Product & Requirement Review
We review bottle, jar or tube sizes, set contents, pump or cap height, and whether the pack is for counter, gift or shipping.
Structure & Insert Development
Box size, opening and insert cavities are drawn around each product — including clearance above the tallest closure.
Artwork & Material Confirmation
Greyboard, wrap paper, insert stock and lid artwork are confirmed after the size is locked.
Prototype / Sample
A sample is used to check cavity fit, pump or cap clearance, lid close and how the set sits when the box is opened.
Production & Quality Control
Boxes and inserts follow the approved nest. Fit, print register and lid close are checked against the sample.

| Finish | Matte / soft-touch / foil stamping options, confirmed on the sample |
The Brief
A cosmetic brand needs a premium presentation box for one or more cosmetic products.
The Packaging Challenge
Different product heights, diameters and closures make a standard insert unsuitable. Pump or cap height has to be included in the inner size so the lid does not press the closure.
Our Solution
The box structure and insert are developed around the actual product dimensions. Product positioning, cavity dimensions and lid clearance are reviewed during sampling.
Why This Structure
A rigid magnetic box can be suitable for premium cosmetic gift presentation because the lid opens in a controlled way, the greyboard wall keeps the set square, and the lid face stays clear for branding. The structure is confirmed against product height and how the box will be opened — it is not assumed for every cosmetic program.
How to Choose the Right Cosmetic Box
Use the table as a starting point. The final structure depends on product size, insert, opening and whether the box also has to ship.
| Structure | Suitable For | Main Advantage |
|---|---|---|
| Rigid Magnetic Box | Premium cosmetic gift sets | Strong presentation and easy opening |
| Lid-and-Base Box | Single products / simple gift packaging | Classic structure and flexible customization |
| Drawer Box | Gift sets / premium presentation | Distinctive opening experience |
| Cosmetic Box with Custom Insert | Bottles, jars, tubes or sets requiring secure positioning | Precise product fit and organized presentation |

FAQ
What packaging is suitable for cosmetic products?
Magnetic boxes, rigid gift boxes and folding paper boxes are commonly used, with an insert when bottles or sets need a fixed cavity. The structure depends on product size, presentation and how the pack ships.
How should a cosmetic set be packed?
Multi-piece sets usually need a box plus insert so jars and bottles do not knock. The insert is developed from each piece size rather than from a generic grid.
Can cosmetic packaging include a custom insert?
Yes. Card or molded-pulp inserts can be formed around bottles, jars and compact outlines. Send the product dimensions when you request a quote.
What materials are used for cosmetic boxes?
Greyboard and art paper are typical for rigid cosmetic boxes. Kraft and corrugated are used when the outer also has to ship. Molded pulp is used for trays where it fits the outline.
Can I customize dimensions and logo?
Yes. Inner size, lid style and print are specified from the product and artwork. The dieline is confirmed before finishing is applied.
How do I start a cosmetic packaging project?
Send product dimensions, set contents, quantity and any reference images. Structure and materials are proposed from that brief.
